Ok friends….. I have been searching for oat milk in my local grocery store for quite some time that wasn't full of chemicals, emulsifiers, processed oils or synthetic vitamins to no avail.
Gosh, I didn't realize how “easy” it is to make homemade oat milk. It takes almost the same amount of time to make it as it does to grab it out of the cooler at the store. (Ok, that is an exaggeration, but it is fast!)
EASY TO MAKE OAT MILK
In these 4 easy steps, you'll have delicious oat milk in a flash!
- Soak the oats. Soak your oats for a half-hour before using.
- Blend the ingredients. Add the oats, purified water, and any sweeteners to a high-powered blender. Blend for 3-4 minutes.
- Strain the milk. (NOT REQUIRED) Either by pouring it through a nut milk bag into a large mixing bowl or pitcher or by straining it through a strainer. You may choose to double strain the mixture to make sure all the sediment is removed.
- Storing oat milk. Pour the oat milk into a large mason jar or sealed pitcher and store it in the fridge.
WAYS TO USE OAT MILK
Oat milk is great to use in smoothies or baked goods. Unlike nut milk, it doesn't contain fats, so it doesn't froth, but it does give those hot liquids a nice creamy texture.
STORING OAT MILK
After you have blended the mixture, pour the oat milk into a mason jar or airtight glass pitcher. It will last in the refrigerator for about a week.
Note: without any stabilizers or emulsifiers, the milk will separate in the fridge. This is normal. You will want to shake or stir it before using it.
MAKING FLAVORED OAT MILK
Without adding “un-natural.” ingredients, you can make your own flavored oat milk by using strawberries, bananas, cacao powder (chocolate,) or simply vanilla. Oat milk is easy to customize to your liking. The flavor possibilities are endless.
Chocolate:
- 2 tbsp cacao powder
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
Strawberry:
- 1 cup organic strawberries, fresh or frozen
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
Vanilla:
- 1 tsp (real) vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
